Acetaminophen may be given to students 6 years old and up for headaches, pain, dysmenorrhea (painful menstrual cramping), or with a fever greater then 100.5 and parents are inaccessible. Acetaminophen will only be given with parent permission.
Honey, lemon and warm water will be given to students 3 years old-4th grade with parent permission.
Cough drops are administered to students 5th grade and up with parent permission.
Ibuprofen may be given to students 7th grade and up for headaches, pain, dysmenorrhea (painful menstrual cramping), or with a fever greater then 100.5 and parents are inaccessible. Ibuprofen will only be given with parent permission.
Other over-the-counter medications will only be given with a doctor’s order.
All students who currently take or may need to take medication on a daily basis (i.e. Inhalers) need to have a completed Physician Ordered/Health Needs Form submitted with the medication. This form should be signed by the parent and the physician. It is very important the medication name, dose, when it is to be given and for what reason is entered on the form. If it is not entered, the form will be returned. If a physician makes any changes in the prescribed medication during the year, a new form needs to be filled out and signed by the physician. See the parent handbook for further details on medication administration at school.
Visits to the nurse
All students who need to visit the nurse will receive a signed note from the nurse detailing the visit. These are for your record and do not need to be signed or returned to the nurse or teacher. In addition to the note, the nurse will contact you via phone for any injury to the head or eye. Please feel free to contact the nurse if you have any questions regarding a clinic visit.
If something changes with your child’s health that may affect his/her school day, please let the nurse or teacher know. This can include changes in allergy status or even a sports injury over the weekend. A physician note is greatly appreciated when there are specific instructions involved (i.e. no recess/PE for one week).
In the nurse’s clinic, we consider it a blessing and privilege to care for your child! Please call us at 658-5331 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org for questions or concerns. We hope to have a safe and healthy school year!
